Peter Jones is a Board Member at Policy Connect, advising on the organisation's work across the sustainability agenda, most notably in sustainable resource and recycling policy.
Peter was until May 2008 a Director of Biffa Waste Services Limited and now operates as a freelance advisor to numerous organisations working across the waste, carbon and materials efficiency agenda. Peter retired as Chair of the DEFRA/DTI Resource Efficiency KTN in Summer 2009 but continues as a Board member of the reformed Resource Efficiency KTN. In 2003 he became a member of the DEFRA New Technologies Demonstrator Programme,
He has been appointed Chair of a specialist group looking at a Zero Waste economy for Advantage West Midlands, as well as acting as member of the Zero Waste Scotland Think-tank and the Mayor of London’s Special Advisor on waste. Additionally he is a strategic advisor for a variety of UK Blue Chips examining the issues around Distributed Energy and the impact of low carbon policies.
A member of the Chartered Institutes of Marketing, Transport, and Wastes Management, he qualified as an Industrial Economist and in July 2007 received an Honorary Degree from the University of Southampton as a Doctor of the University for work associated with Environmental technologies. He has given evidence to a range of Parliamentary Select Committees over the years on waste, sustainability and resource efficiency.
