On 18 June, Policy Connect held a parliamentary reception at Portcullis House, in collaboration with techUK, Weypoint and the DOHE EdTech Hub, focused on strengthening the connections between research, innovation and adoption across the UK’s EdTech ecosystem. The event brought together perspectives from education, industry, research and policy to examine current challenges, identify shared priorities, and consider how evidence, investment and innovation pathways can better align to support sustainable growth in the sector.
Welcomed and introduced by Tristan Osborne MP, the reception featured a panel discussion with:
- Lord Knight of Weymouth
- Meg Hamel, HolonIQ by QS
- Cheryl Shirley, LEO Academy Trust
- Dr Sara de Freitas, Weypoint Ltd
Following the panel, attendees took part in the third round of an EdTech Expert Delphi study, contributing to the identification of a set of statements summarising the key barriers, opportunities and emerging digital futures for the UK EdTech sector. The session closed with a summary of key discussions, forthcoming work, and opportunities for continued engagement.
The event also highlighted the case for a formal Information and Education Sciences Research Council for the UK, a dedicated body proposed to coordinate rigorous research, support high-quality evaluation of EdTech products, and ensure that public policy, investment and classroom practice are guided by independent evidence.
