In 2019, reports indicate that over 53.6 million metric tonnes of electronic waste was generated worldwide. Latest predictions highlight that global e-waste will reach over 74 million metric tonnes by 2030, almost doubling current rates.

This makes e-waste the world’s fastest-growing domestic waste stream.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Sustainable Resources has identified Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) as a key area for consideration in 2024, given the variety of environmental and other harms that improper disposal and management of WEEE incurs.

2024 presents the sustainable resource community with the opportunity, in the form of government commitments to consult and review the variety of regulations and strategies which underpin the UK’s current approach to WEEE, to use their experience and expertise to inform much-needed reforms to how the UK design, produce, manage, use and dispose of electronic products.

In conversation with Barry Sheerman MP, members of the sustainable resource community are invited to join Policy Connect on Tuesday 6 February, 14:00 – 16:00 on the Parliamentary estate to explore this important issue further.
