Nick Anakwue

Nick joined Policy Connect in June 2026 as a Fellow with the Health Policy, and Industry, Technology and Innovation Policy teams.

He is a PhD researcher in Political Science at Queen Mary University of London. His research uses mixed methods approaches in investigating mobilisation and identity formation in digitally mediated social movements. His interests cut across areas of political communication, tech policy, and civic participation. He is funded by the London Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP), under the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

Prior to his PhD, Nick has had an extensive academic and professional background in Philosophy and Political Science, with work experience across tech and marketing in startups across Africa. He holds a First Class BA (Hons) in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and an MA (Distinction) in African and Diaspora Studies from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He worked for 5+ years leading business and marketing teams within tech startups in ecommerce and tech media.

During his PhD at Queen Mary, he has served as the Postgraduate Research Representation Assistant within the Students’ Union (SU), working closely with the SU and the Doctoral College in improving research culture for the postgraduate research community. He also served as Research Assistant in the Centre for Governance and Democracy at Queen Mary, leading the hosting of events dedicated to discussing research on tech and political participation.

Outside of work, Nick enjoys playing the guitar and piano and trying out musical covers. He also loves reading and researching novel topics.
