With May’s local elections approaching, the next meeting of the Accessible Transport Policy Commission focusses on the role of #LocalGovernment in shaping accessible transport.

From managing our roads and streets to planning and commissioning public transport services, local government has a pivotal role to play in removing barriers to transport for disabled people.

This meeting will bring together local government leaders, disabled people and transport professionals to examine the important role that local and regional policymakers have in making transport systems more accessible.

It will establish a network of local government leaders on accessible transport. We’ll also propose a new accessible transport charter for policymakers and discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with putting it into action.

Chaired by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, the parliamentary session will feature contributions from:

  • Clive Gilbert, Head of Accessible Transport at Policy Connect
  • Vernon Everitt, Transport Commissioner at Greater Manchester Combined Authority

  • Seb Dance, Deputy Mayor for Transport at the Greater London Authority and Deputy Chair of Transport for London

  • Tim Bellamy, Acting Assistant Director of Transport at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority

  • Helen Ellerton, Head of Transport Policy at West Yorkshire Combined Authority

  • Ben Brittain, Policy Adviser at West Midlands Combined Authority

  • Natasha Healey, Associate Director at WSP
