The Design Economy: Present and Future. A roundtable with Design Council

The All-Party Parliamentary Design and Innovation Group (APDIG) and Design Council are co-hosting two roundtables this Spring, as a part of their ground-breaking Design Economy research into the value of design to the UK economy.

This roundtable will ask what policy is needed to enable the UK’s 1.97 million strong design community to increase their positive social, environmental, and contribution to all UK regions and nations, as well as the conditions needed to create a more equitable and diverse design sector. Your reflections on the kinds of social change needed to realise this would be invaluable to this conversation.

This event will be chaired by Barry Sheerman MP, co-Chair for the APDIG, and speakers include Minnie Moll, CEO of Design Council; Dori Tunstall, Dean of the faculty of Design at OCAD University in Toronto; and Lord Kerslake, former Head of the Home Civil Service.

The roundtable will be with an invited group of parliamentarians, policymakers, and industry leaders from across design and government. Its purpose will be to explore the big changes needed to our design sectors, if we are to utilise the UK’s incredible design capability to foster greater regional growth and equity. We will also explore how we can widen access to design education across the country, to create a more diverse and equitable design sector.
