Primary care is the front door to the NHS and plays a vital role in improving population health, tackling inequalities and ensuring patients receive timely, joined-up care. As the Government looks to strengthen neighbourhood health services and shift care closer to communities, improving access across primary care has never been more important.
Against this backdrop, the APHG’s inquiry is the first substantive report the Group has produced in several years and the first to examine all four primary care sectors: general practice, community pharmacy, NHS dentistry and optometry, within a single piece of work.
Drawing on evidence from across the health system, the report sets out practical recommendations for improving access, reducing healthcare inequalities, and supporting a more integrated approach to primary care.
The inquiry has been chaired on a cross-party basis by:
- Dr Simon Opher MP (Labour) – Chair of the APHG
- Lord Kamall (Conservative) – Shadow Minister for Health and Social Care
- Jess Brown-Fuller MP (Liberal Democrat)
- Sadik Al-Hassan MP (Labour)
The launch will bring together parliamentarians, patient representatives, sector leaders, academics and researchers to discuss the report’s findings and recommendations, with a particular focus on how they can support the future delivery of primary care and neighbourhood health services.
This report is kindly sponsored by: Institute for Public Health and Wellbeing (University of Essex), and Primary Health Properties (PHP).
A full agenda and confirmed speaker details will be published closer to the day.
