Next Steps for the UK’s COP26 Presidency

While the COP26 conference held in Glasgow last year has concluded, the UK’s COP26 Presidency remains for the upcoming year until COP27 in Egypt, November 2022. In light of this, the Climate Change APPG will be looking at the next steps for the UK’s COP26 Presidency with a focus on the UK’s domestic climate leadership, climate diplomacy, and loss and damage for climate vulnerable countries

The Climate Change APPG (APPCCG) is delighted to host its next event entitled, Next Steps for the UK’s COP26 Presidency taking place on Tuesday 22nd February, 2pm-3.30pm via Zoom.

COP26 made important progress in responding to the climate crisis, with the Glasgow Climate Pact reaffirming the need to keep 1.5C alive. However, it is crucial that every effort is made to deliver on this commitment during the remainder of the UK’s COP26 Presidency and ensure further progress is made at COP27 in Egypt, November 2022. 
  
With just nine months of the UK’s COP Presidency remaining, this event will be a timely opportunity to reflect on progress to date and discuss what more should be done in the run up to COP27 to deliver a positive outcome at the summit for people and planet.

This event will be chaired by Caroline Lucas MP, Chair of the Climate Change APPG. It will take place as a three-part panel discussion, covering three key themes: 

• The UK’s domestic leadership in reducing emissions 
• The role of climate diplomacy and building consensus 
• The need for adequate finance for climate vulnerable countries affected by loss and damage
