As part of the APHG’s ongoing programme of work on the shift from analogue to digital systems, the Group is convening a second roundtable discussion titled Realising Digital Transformation: Infrastructure, Skills, and Regulation in Healthcare.

Chaired by Baroness Ritchie of Downpatrick, the session will bring together stakeholders from healthcare services, industry, and professional bodies to explore the challenges and opportunities presented by digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI). Discussion will focus on the infrastructural and skills-related barriers to adoption, the regulatory landscape, and how digital transformation can enhance patient care and support healthcare professionals.

Participants in the Shifting from Analogue to Digital Systems roundtable Chaired by Dr Simon Opher MP, that took place on 14 October 2025, identified clear structural and infrastructural barriers that continue to limit the use of AI and digital tools in healthcare. As a result, many healthcare professionals are unable to benefit fully from technologies that could reduce workloads and improve patient outcomes.

This second discussion will build on those insights, examining how to overcome regulatory challenges that can slow innovation, and considering the education and training needs of the workforce to ensure professionals are confident in using new technologies safely and effectively.

Spaces to attend remain available, if you would like to join us for the discussion please write to lavanya.rangarajan@policyconnect.org.uk.
