Policy Connect is holding a parliamentary event to launch the Westminster Sustainable Business Forum’s fifth Bricks and Water report, which explores the challenges and opportunities associated with water resources, water efficiency, and water reuse in England.

Last year, the Environment Agency warned that, without action, England could face a public water supply shortfall of 5 billion litres per day by 2055, with a further 1 billion litres per day shortfall for the wider economy. The Cunliffe Review and the Government’s Water White Paper provide recommendations to help avoid water scarcity becoming a widespread problem across England, but do these recommendations go far enough?

The meeting will be chaired by Baroness McIntosh of Pickering with parliamentary input expected from Rt Hon Lord Lansley, Lee Pitcher MP, Dr Julia Buckley MP and Minister for Water and Flooding, Emma Hardy MP (invited).

Panellists will include:

  • Lisa Craven, Managing Director at Stormsaver
  • George Warren, the Integrated Water Management Lead at Anglian Water
  • Dr Andrew Russell, Reader at Queen Mary University of London
  • Oona Muirhead CBE, Policy Fellow at Policy Connect.
