The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Assistive and Accessible (APPGAT) will host a policy roundtable on the Future of CO and Fire Safety for Disabled People, chaired by Richard Baker MP.

The roundtable will bring together policymakers, disabled people, fire and rescue services professionals, home safety product industry experts, and academics to explore policies and practices that can help disabled people live safely and independently at home.

The meeting is part of a project led by SGN, Bournemouth University, Fireblitz and Policy Connect to demonstrate how involving disabled people in the design and delivery of products and services designed to keep them safe will lead to better outcomes. The project has two aims:

  • To develop an accessible and affordable carbon monoxide alarm for SGN customers and the wider market; and
  • To make recommendations on how policymakers and industry can work more effectively with disabled people to advance their CO and fire safety by reducing preventable risks and encouraging innovation in products and services more broadly.

The roundtable will inform a policy briefing for government and industry.
