Design for Planet: how design can help tackle the climate emergency
Head of Industry, Technology and Innovation, Floriane Fidegnon, attended the Design Councils’ Design for Planet Festival 9-10th November in Dundee, the UK’s only Unesco City of Design.
"With COP26 it has never been more clear that the climate emergency needs swift and tangible action if we are to mitigate and reverse the effects of global warming. Throughout history, design has been at the forefront of creating products that now pollute our earth and the creation of solutions to our climate crisis. Design professionals in the UK number 1.89m and recent research shows that over 80% of the carbon consumption of a product can be reduced at the design stage.
"If you provide this workforce with the tools to deliver these carbon reduction outcomes, we can get well on our way to achieiving net zero. It was a privilege to attend the festival and hear from the 100 leading sustainability and design experts, I enjoyed the talks, the life cycle analysis workshop and of course the policy session where we discussed how we can move policy ambitions into delivery over the coming months. I am looking forward to our continued collaboration with Design Council." Floriane Fidegnon, Head of Industry, Technology and Innovation, Policy Connect

What are the practical ways designer's can learn from existing communities? @3Lmantra says it starts with understanding context, ask yourself whether this reflects the planet as a whole, and put the marginalised majority at the centre. #DesignForPlanet pic.twitter.com/plLsrVrJQl
