The second evidence session for the Skills Commission’s Skills 2030 inquiry will focus on the theme: “Unlocking the skills agenda: which policy changes hold the key to a world-class skills system?”

The Skills Commission is running an inquiry – “Skills 2030 – A World Class Skills System”, chaired by Barry Sheerman MP and Sir John Hayes MP.

The second evidence session will gather evidence about what priority proposals hold the key to unlocking major improvements in the Skills System. The session will be held in parliament, hosted by Barry Sheerman MP.

Topics to be addressed include:

  1. Policy priorities: which policy initiatives should the next government have as its top priorities to help deliver a world-class skills system?
  2. Skills investment: how can we increase the level of investment that businesses across the UK make in training?
  3. Lifelong learning: how can we make a flexible, lifelong skills system a reality in an age of technological change?

  4. A strategic government approach to skills: how can cross-departmental collaboration improve workforce planning and address workforce shortages?

  5. Qualifications and standards: can they be made to keep up with the pace of change?

  6. A system that works for all learners: how do we overcome the barriers that prevent progression for disadvantaged learners?
