National Apprenticeship Week 2024

National Apprenticeship Week takes place from 5 to 11 February 2024. The annual celebration seeks to demonstrate the benefits of apprenticeships and how they contribute towards wider government aims of delivering a more skilled workforce.

National Apprenticeships Week aims to exhibit the value and opportunity of apprenticeships for communities, local businesses, and the wider economy, with apprentices and employers encouraged to highlight their apprenticeship success stories.

Adopting the theme of “Skills for Life”, National Apprenticeship Week 2024 will highlight how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required to have successful careers, and employers to develop a more skilled workforce.

The week-long celebration of apprenticeships comes as the number of apprenticeships available in new and innovative areas (digital, data, environmental technology, etc.) is increasing and developing.

Recent Policy Connect inquiries on Upskilling Industry and Higher Technical Qualifications have considered how apprenticeships and wider technical education can contribute to skilling Britain’s workforce for success in the 21st century economy.

Both reports recommended providing more incentives for SME’s and proposed reforms to the Apprenticeship Levy, careers guidance, and local and national skills coordination.

With an ongoing inquiry into England’s skills system, Policy Connect and Skills 2030 will continue to examine the merits of reforms to apprenticeships and consider their role in delivering a world-class skills system in England by 2030.
