CO in direct-booking accommodation roundtable

The All-Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group (APPCOG) is hosting a Parliamentary roundtable to examine the risk of carbon monoxide (CO) in direct-booking accommodation.

The roundtable will bring together members of the direct-booking sector, housing experts and policymakers to discuss critical questions facing this emerging section of the so-called ‘sharing economy’, including:

1. Are landlords advertising properties on direct-booking sites, and if so, what impact does that have on regulatory compliance in both public and private rental markets?
2. Are properties advertised on direct-booking sites less likely to comply with tourism accommodation regulations? If so, does this heighten the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning?
3. How can direct-booking accommodation sites apply best practice in order to protect guests and make hosts more aware of their responsibilities?
4. How can Local Authorities be supported to enforce existing housing and safety standards in direct booking accommodation?
5. Should the Government reform regulation affecting direct-booking accommodation to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning? If so, how?

This work was prompted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Tourism’s ‘Inquiry into The Sharing Economy’, which raised serious concerns regarding the safety of direct-booking accommodation. This event is kindly sponsored by the Gas Industry Safety Group.
