The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Data Analytics and the ReEnTrust are delighted to host an online briefing to talk to policymakers about their research on rebuilding and enhancing trust in algorithms. This work informs both policymakers, businesses and economists by suggesting new approaches and technology that will enhance trust in algorithms and therefore enable online platforms to make the most out of such technology during a time when we are heavily reliant on online economy.

Following a presentation by the ReEnTrust’s lead researchers, Dr Philip Inglesant, Dr Ansgar Koene and Dr Jun Zhao we will be encouraging an interactive Q&A with Parliamentarians and guests from the data industry.

This event will provide an opportunity to hear from leading researchers on the future of algorithmic systems. In a time where online platforms are becoming the foundation of our economy, it is important that policy moves with the times and supports the industry to make the most of the technology that is being developed in this field.

Topics for discussion will include:

  • How algorithmic technology is developing
  • New suggested approaches to regain public trust in algorithms
  • The potential role of algorithms and platforms in a post-COVID, post-Brexit UK
  • Other public policy areas that are related to or can feed into this piece of work

The event is the latest in a series of events conducted by the APGDA into developing new public policy ideas and engagement on how data can be used and collated in ethical ways. The Group’s next report into place based ethical AI will be launched in early 2021.
