Report launch - Unpacking the Circular Economy: Unlocking reuse at scale
Policy Connect is hosting a parliamentary event to celebrate the publication of our new report on behalf of the APPG for Sustainable Resources – Unpacking the Circular Economy: Unlocking reuse at scale.
After an extensive inquiry to gather evidence, Policy Connect has produced a report which sets out five key policy recommendations which would support the UK to capitalise on the potential of reusable packaging products and systems to accomplish the UK’s circular economy ambitions.
The report identifies a missed opportunity in the current policy landscape to prioritise reuse and calls for the Government to provide an effective long-term delivery plan for collection and packaging reforms which recognises the role of reusable packaging. This includes improving policy developments such as the Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging and Deposit Return Schemes to promote reusable packaging design, develop binding reuse targets, and ensure financial provision for investment in reusable packaging systems and infrastructure.
Alex Sobel MP will deliver the keynote address at the report launch.
Speakers include:
-
Sarah Greenwood, Co-Principal Investigator - Many Happy Returns, Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures University of Sheffield
-
Lara Pohl-Martell, Business Advisor, ReLondon
-
Lowelle Bryan, Sector Specialist – The UK Plastics Pact, WRAP
-
Dr Lucia Corsini, Lecturer in Product Design Engineering, Brunel University London
-
Sarah Ottaway, Sustainability and Social Value Lead, SUEZ
-
Tracy Sutton, Founder and Lead Consultant, Root
The launch will bring together key stakeholders across packaging, waste, and sustainable resources sectors, providing an opportunity to engage with the report findings and recommendations and discuss impact and further research, to help drive forward an agenda to ensure the delivery of reusable packaging products and systems at scale across the UK.
