State of the nation’s health (prevention, inequalities and the building blocks of health) – The Health Foundation

10:00-12:00

Policy Connect and the APHG are delivering a series of three parliamentary events, organised in partnership between leading think tanks, the Health Foundation, Nuffield Trust, and The King’s Fund. The series has been tailored to the needs of parliamentarians in conjunction with the All-Party Parliamentary Health Group (APHG) and will be chaired by Dr Simon Opher MP.

Each event will offer an in-depth exploration of a specific area of health and care policy, uniting experts from across all three think tanks. These sessions are designed to provide parliamentarians with comprehensive insights into the state of the nation’s health, and the structure and functioning of health and social care services in the UK, supporting your parliamentary and constituency duties.

Session 2: State of the nation’s health (prevention, inequalities and the building blocks of health) – The Health Foundation

An in-depth session on the state of the UK’s health where we’ll explore what’s happened to life expectancy, how health inequalities have widened and what the UK’s health will look like in the future. This session will also delve into the building blocks of health, the things that make and keep us healthy outside of the NHS, such as people’s resources, housing and work. Additionally, we will discuss the policy changes needed to improve the nation’s health and tackle inequalities, and potential opportunities for this such as the Government’s Health Mission, their proposed shift to prevention and the devolution agenda.

The event will be hosted by Gwen Nightingale, Assistant Director, the Health Foundation. She will be joined by:

  • Thea Stein, Chief Executive, Nuffield Trust
  • David Buck, Senior Fellow, The King’s Fund
