Sustainability in Health Summit
Colleagues from Policy Connect’s Sustainability and Health teams look forward to holding a Sustainability in Health Summit in Parliament.
To be chaired by the Labour Peer Baroness Margaret Ritchie, the summit will draw together parliamentarians, NHS providers and leaders, government policymakers and more to align on key issues in the use of natural and medical resources in healthcare, and next steps to promote sustainability across the health system.
The administration of healthcare entails significant resource consumption and waste. Spiralling demand represents a sustainability challenge: in maintaining quality of care for current and future generations while managing the footprint and cost of care.
As the new government begins to formulate its new 10-year healthcare strategy, this timely summit will expound the value of resource efficiency and sustainability for healthcare, and align on how the 10-year strategy can ensure the long-term sustainability of the health system.
Speakers include:
- Professor Alistair McGuire, health economics professor and leader in sustainable health policy;
- Dr Karen Mayor, the lead of the Department of Health and Social Care’s Design for Life initiative; and
- Heidi Barnard, NHS Supply Chain’s Head of Sustainability.
The event’s concluding panel discussion involving NHS leaders, providers, royal colleges and more will help inform the direction of Policy Connect’s new programme of work to help embed a sustainable approach to healthcare through policy.
