Policy Connect's research informs Select Committee's call for plastic waste export ban
Evidence from Policy Connect's report "Plastic Packaging Plan: achieving zero 'waste' exports" is cited by House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Select Committee.
Policy Connect welcomes the EFRA Committee's recent report on "The price of plastic: ending the toll of plastic waste", published 7 November 2022, in which its members call for an export ban of all plastic waste by 2027.
In its report the Committee takes up the central recommendation from Policy Connect's 2019 report "Plastic Packaging Plan" to cut plastic use and set a target of zero exports of plastic packaging by 2030 at the latest. The Committee also recognises that "a ban on exports to non-OECD countries is insufficient" as Policy Connect argued in this article and our submission to the Committee - alongside other organisations, including many of our partners and stakeholders.
Policy Connect and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Sustainable Resources will continue its work into plastic packaging solutions and moving the UK closer to a more circular economy in 2023.
