On the 19th March, the All-Party Parliamentary Health Group (APHG) recently hosted a vital discussion on strengthening primary care, bringing together international health ministers, global experts, and UK policymakers. 

Convened in partnership with King’s College London and the Institute of Development Studies, the event explored international experiences in primary healthcare and how the UK can learn from global best practice.

Chaired by Dr Simon Opher MP, the session welcomed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Ashley Dalton MP, along with distinguished health ministers from Nigeria, Ghana, Malawi, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania  all visiting the UK for the UK-African Health Summit. Their insights, complemented by contributions from experts across Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, India, New Zealand, and Japan, underscored the power of international collaboration in shaping resilient, people-centred health systems.

This high-level exchange helped bridge the gap between policy and practice, offering valuable perspectives on how countries can work together to improve primary healthcare delivery. International cooperation remains essential to building strong, sustainable health systems and Policy Connect continues to  look forward to continuing to foster meaningful partnerships across borders
