On Wednesday, Policy Connect facilitated the third meeting of the National Centre for Accessible Transport’s (ncat) Public Sector Community of Practice for Accessible and Inclusive Transport, hosted by KPMG in Bristol.
- Funding: targeting investment locally to develop accessible transport networks.
- Data and user experience: including the Applied Information Group’s ncat-funded project to create a single data standard to support accessible journeys.
- Policy and regulation: the role of emerging policy, local action and the Department for Transport’s Accessible Transport Charter in driving improvements.
The event also included updates from Active Travel England, KPMG, Applied Information, and Spinal Injuries UK. Policy Connect’s Clive Gilbert, Head of Accessible Transport, provided updates on ncat’s forthcoming reports and toolkits, and on plans to form a new Coalition of Local and Regional Government to drive progress towards a more accessible transport system.
Reflecting on the event, Abigail Chapman-Miller said:
“Opportunities such as the Community of Practice, which bring leaders together across multiple sectors to discuss developments, share learning and explore common challenges in making transport accessible, are vital in moving towards a transport network that works for everybody.”
Thank you to everybody who contributed their time, expertise, and experience to this third Community of Practice. The discussions will help to inform the development of the Coalition and support our shared ambition to make transport accessible for all.
