Last week, the Accessible Transport Policy Commission held its annual reception in Parliament, with over 100 guests in attendance!
The reception rounded off a busy year for the Commission, which featured two report launches (Equipping Councils for Change and Joined Up Policies, Joined Up Journeys), four events, and a range of meetings with ministers, parliamentarians, civil servants, and local government officials.
Joined by parliamentarians, disabled people, and transport professionals, the Commission’s Chair Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson led an evening of networking and discussion on developments towards a more accessible and inclusive transport system over the past year.
Following the Department for Transport’s recent launch of its Rail Accessibility Plan, Simon Lightwood MP, Transport Minister for Accessibility, delivered a keynote speech on the government’s plans to improve accessibility across all modes of transport.
The reception also featured excellent speeches from the new CEO of the National Centre for Accessible Transport, Emma Partlow, and Clive Gilbert, Head of Accessible Transport at Policy Connect.
The Accessible Transport Policy Commission is part of the National Centre for Accessible Transport (ncat) and works to remove barriers to transport for disabled people across the UK.
