Tribute to Chris Bielby MBE

Policy Connect and the APPCOG are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Chris Bielby MBE, who stood as the Chair of the APPCOG’s Stakeholder Forum from 2016 - 2022, in addition to a wealth of professional and personal achievements. Chris was a very kind man who was always quick to praise and hesitant to criticise. It has been our absolute honour working beside him and sharing in his enthusiasm and dedication for consumer safety.

Please see the statement below from Policy Connect founder and APPCOG Co-Chair Barry Sheerman MP:

“The legion of friends, colleagues and campaigners who knew and loved Chris Bielby are devastated at the news of his death. He was the ultimate go to person on so many issues. His campaigning on carbon monoxide poisoning and gas safety saved so many lives.

Chris was heavily involved with setting up the Dominic Rodgers Trust. Dominic Rodgers was just 10 years old in 2004 when he became a victim to carbon monoxide poisoning due to a neighbour’s faulty flue. Through his tireless campaigning, alongside Dominic’s Mother Stacey Rodgers, Chris helped to save the lives of many people.

Above all, to me and many others, Chris was a constant and faithful friend. My condolences are with his wife Pat, and his daughter Kate.”

A tribute from Baroness Finlay can be accessed on the CO Research Trust website.

Chris's daughter Kate and her husband Dan are raising money for MND by tackling the Three Peaks Challenge in honour of Chris Bielby. If you would like to sponsor them, you can do so here: Kate Bielby is fundraising for Motor Neurone Disease Association (justgiving.com)
