Gurur Deniz Uyanik

Policy Research Fellow

Deniz joined Policy Connect in July 2024 as a Policy Research Fellow in Accessibility, with a focus on accessible transport. 

Before joining Policy Connect, Deniz worked as a Parliamentary Assistant, gaining experience on diverse policy areas, including transport, education, health, and social care. Furthermore, Deniz has conducted policy research on school exclusions, youth mental health services, and support services for racialised young people.

Deniz holds an academic background in social and political psychology. During their BSc in Psychology with Legal Studies at the University of Sussex, they worked as a research assistant on projects addressing discrimination, income inequality, and social change. Deniz has also co-authored a paper on migration.

Throughout university, Deniz dedicated significant efforts to improving accessibility through various roles such as Students' Union Disabled Students' Officer, Psychology Accessibility Representative, and Access Sussex campaigner. They played a pivotal role in campaigns advocating for blended learning and accessible housing.

Currently, Deniz is a member of the Office for Students Disability in Higher Education Advisory Panel, and works as a disability and neurodiversity consultant, including with Disabled Students UK.

Outside of work, Deniz enjoys discussing ADHD on and off camera, singing at karaoke nights, and crocheting.
