Professor David Heymann has been Chair of Public Health England since November 2012.

David was previously Chair of the Health Protection Agency UK and is Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. 

David has previously worked in senior roles at various international health organisations. He spent 25 years as medical epidemiologist with the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, with assignments to Asian and African country ministries of health. He also spent 22 years at the World Health Organization in various posts ranging from Chief of Research in the WHO Global Programme on AIDS to director of the Emerging and other Communicable Diseases Programme.
