Public Sector Community of Practice on Accessible and Inclusive Transport

The National Centre for Accessible Transport (ncat) will hold the next meeting of its Public Sector Community of Practice on Accessible and Inclusive Transport in Bristol.

The Community was established to build the expertise of local government elected leaders and staff in accessibility and disability, with the aim of promoting more inclusive travel for disabled people. Meeting every six months, it brings together local transport practitioners, Disabled People’s Organisations, experts and wider stakeholders across local authorities to share best practice, resources and potential solutions.

During the session, participants will hear from the Department for Transport on its forthcoming Accessible Travel Charter and discuss the implications for local transport. The programme will also include presentations on Active Travel England’s accessibility programme, the Applied Information Group’s ncat-funded project to standardise accessible travel data, and Spinal Injuries UK’s work to develop a new online information resource to help disabled people travel with confidence.

The meeting will provide an opportunity to exchange learning, discuss emerging policy and practice, and strengthen collaboration between organisations working to improve accessible and inclusive transport.
