Shifting care from Hospitals to Communities – Realising the NHS Fit for the Future Vision

Dr. Simon Opher MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Health Group, will host a parliamentary discussion on ‘Shifting care from Hospital to Communities – Realising the NHS Fit for the Future Vision’. This will come as part of the APHG’s event series on the 10-year healthcare plan. 

The NHS’ recently announced 10-year health plan will focus on the transition from hospital-based care to community-centred models. As part of the plan, the Government hopes to ‘bring care closer to where people live’ but this is not a simple feat. 

With an ageing population, a shortage of health and care workers and fragmented resources within various health and care organisations, this transition requires a joint-up approach to understanding barriers to implementing a community care model that aligns with the aims of the NHS.

The discussion will see presentations from:

• Dr Davina Deniszczyc, Charity and Medical Director, Nuffield Health
• Dr John Dean, Clinical Director, Royal College of Physicians
• Professor Mel Hughes, Bournemouth University
• David Wells, Chief Executive, IBMS

Speakers and panellists will discuss opportunities and challenges for transitioning to community focused healthcare and how the Government can be supported in these efforts. We will be joined by healthcare leaders from royal colleges, academia, industry bodies, healthcare practitioners and members of the All-Party Parliamentary Health Group.
