The Reinvention of Prevention: How to Fund and Finance a Pivot to a Prevention-First Healthcare System

The All-Party Parliamentary Health Group and the Milken Institute recently hosted a parliamentary reception to mark the launch of the Milken Institute’s new report - ‘The Reinvention of Prevention: How to Fund and Finance a Pivot to a Prevention-First Healthcare System’.

Highlighting the urgent necessity of transitioning from hospital-centred care to a prevention-oriented, community-based healthcare model, the report demonstrates that we possess both the technology and evidence required to make well-informed investments in preventive measures.

It offers recommendations on sustainable funding strategies to facilitate this essential shift towards supporting community-level prevention initiatives.

The report also examines the increasing challenge faced by health systems worldwide in balancing the cost of treating the rising burden of disease while securing the resources needed for long-term investment in prevention to counteract this trend.

The reception, hosted by Lord Bethell, featured discussion of the report’s key findings and recommendations and spotlighted innovative financing mechanisms to deliver a shift from hospital-based treatment to prevention-focused, community-driven healthcare.

Speakers included:

  • Dr Simon Opher MP, Chair, All-Party Parliamentary Health Group
  • Lord Bethell, Officer, All-Party Parliamentary Health Group
  • Dr Simon Radford Director, Policy and Programming, Milken Institute
  • Esther Krofah, Executive Vice President, Health, Milken Institute
