The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Assistive and Accessible Technology (APPGAT) will host a roundtable on intelligent assistive robotics, chaired by Steff Aquarone MP.
From exoskeletons that can help people with paralysis walk again to devices that allow people with limited fine motor control to feed themselves a meal, intelligent assistive robotics has immense potential to help people who draw on care lead healthier, more independent and fulfilling lives. Despite this, the technology has yet to move from the laboratory into widespread use in people’s homes and clinical settings.
Policy Connect has partnered with the University of Nottingham to investigate the barriers to the adoption of intelligent assistive robotics and understand how they can be eased. This roundtable will bring together health and social care professionals, technology innovators, academics and people with lived experience to discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by these technologies. The discussion will inform recommendations to government on the legislative and regulatory, as well as the service and workforce reforms, needed to make intelligent assistive robotics commonplace.
